The kind way of stating this is that a good manager needs good technical
advice. And whichever your strength is it is wise to konw it and to be
aware of whether you are one of the VERY rare people who actually
combines both.

A company needs ways of rewarding both types of people so that it
is worthwhile to exploit your strengths rather than have to try to
cover your weaknesses.

In fact I think companies need ways of rewarding a much more diverse
set of people than this if they want successful teams. but that is
probably another discussion.
