References: The dragons in rogue 3.6 were delightful and fascinating, and I regret that they were removed from later versions of rogue. It should have been possible to keep them, but just add more aggressive dragons. All 3.6 dragons do not attack you unless you attack them. However, if you are not aware of this, some of them terrify you when you first meet them. Some dragons simply sleep until awakened. Others, however, march up and down a room. If you happen to be moving away from them, it appears that they are chasing you, and yet if you change direction, they move harmlessly by. Some dragons "flit" from place to place in the room, rather than move about in a stepwise fashion. If a flitting dragon lands on you, you can sustain up to the full damage that a dragon can give, but if you prudently refrain from counterattack, the dragon, not noticing you, will go away. Some dragons move to the doorway of a room after you have left the room. This is quite disconcerting when the corridor turns out to be a dead-end, leaving no recourse but to fight the dragon with little running space. Rings of "telportation" were very useful in 3.6 for escaping from dragons. - Toby Robison (not Robinson!) allegra!eosp1!robison decvax!ittvax!eosp1!robison
