[net.games.rogue] Interesting bug in 5.2 blindness potion

An interesting thing happened to me while wandering around rogue one day.
I was on level 5 and I found an unidentified potion, which I drank to
identify. Well, it was a potion of blindness. Not having any cures
and not willing to wait until it wore off, I pulled a magic-mapping
scroll and proceeded to step on every square foot of the level (at level
5, you don't worry to much about nasty traps). In no time, I filled
three quarters of the entire level with "."'s from the trail I was
making. Then the lights came on. "Fine", says I, and continued my
exploration. Then I noticed some of the periods were disappearing
in a room I was not in. Further observation showed that the periods
were disappearing in a trail, as if *something* was walking over them.
I immediately surmised that a) that must be a dark room, and b) that
trail is being caused by a random monster that was just generated in
that room. Well, the trail of disappearing periods went straight to
a doorway, through the hall, into another room, basically making a
beeline path straight for me. It turned out to be a hobgoblin, which
I promptly wasted.
It seems that in Version 5.2, when a random monster is created, the
program actually prints its position on your screen, even when it's
in a different room. My guess is that it prints either as a blank,
if the room it's in is a dark room, as a period if the room is lit,
as a pound-sign if it's in a hallway, as a plus if it's in a door-
way, or as a percent if it's on the stairs. Has anyone else noticed
this, and, if so, could you confirm this?
