mhsnews-request@ICS.UCI.EDU (10/19/90)
MHSNews archives are available for anonymous FTP from ICS.UCI.EDU [128.195.1.1], or via archive server. The files are in MMDF format (each message delimited at start and end by "\001\001\001\001\n") and are compressed. The most recent archive file has been de-trashed---duplicates and error messages have been deleted. Here are the archive file sizes and their names: size name message dates 329583 internet/mhsnews/880430-900206.Z 30-Apr-88..06-Feb-90 200689 internet/mhsnews/900212-901017.Z 12-Feb-90..17-Oct-90 Each file contains messages from a range of dates reflected in the file name. The file names are in yymmdd-yymmdd format (yy=year, mm=month, dd=day). The .Z suffixes indicate compressed format; see compress(1) on UNIX systems, and analogous utilities on other systems. Be sure to use binary mode when transferring these files. The archive server provides email access to the files. Send mail to: archive-server@ics.uci.edu Commands to the server may be given in the body. Some of these commands are: help send <archive> <file> find <archive> <string> The help command replies with a useful help message. The server allegedly can handle binary files. If you become aware of any problems with the server, please notify support@ics.uci.edu. s/ Jerry Sweet MHSNews-Request@ICS.UCI.EDU
