Electronic Data Interchange, Gary Hutchinson & Celia L. Desmond, IEEE Network, October 1987, Vol 1, No. 4, pp 16-20 In addition, there are bundles of books that talk about the "business opportunities" afforded by EDI - very hard to get technical info. Information on work carried out under the EEC Trade Electronic Data Interchange (TEDIS) programme can be obtained (free!) by writing to: Tedis Programme, Commission of the European Communities, Directorate-General for Telecommunications, Information, Industries and Innovation, 200, rue de la Loi, B-1049 Brussels, Belgium If you feel like spending lots of money, you can also purchase ISO Standard 9735 (EDIFACT) or X.435/F.435 from your local standards supply outfit (no FTP - alas). Frost and Sullivan/Technology Appraisals also do seminars on it for 700 pounds a throw. I hope this will give you a start.
