References: In rogue 5.2, you cannot go up if you don't have the amulet; your way is "magically blocked". If you go back down, you can get the amulet on level 26 again, and you can pick up magic along the way. I was (sigh) building up a nice little game by shuttling back and forth on levels 25 and 26 (holding the amulet). I had 39000 pieces of gold, and a marvelous inventory including a +10,+9 sword.
