[net.games.rogue] Possible Bug?

gordon@uw-june (Gordon Davisson) (09/28/84)

Recently, I was exploring level 17 when I happened upon a what I assume to
have been a party room, which looked like this from the doorway:

		UFY
		-@-
		 #
		 #

I recoiled instinctively, though as I did I realized that I probably wouldn't
be able to move because the Venus' Flytrap was likely to be holding me (we
have 5.3, if you haven't guessed by now).
However, I did manage to back up, *but the flytrap followed me into the
corridor*! After that move, I was in fact held, and had to fight my way loose.
(The Black Unicorn soon got me, in case you're interested)
Has anyone else out there ever had a similar experience?

This doesn't sound like a bug but actually a feature of the game.
Unlike what most people might think the Venus flytrap can move one step,
but only in pursuit and only into a doorway or coridoor.

By the way I picked up this tid-bit of info from an earlier version of
the rogue magazine.

I could be wrong but I think I remember it correctly.

I believe when a party room is created all the critters inside
are 'awake'. I've had N's attack me in a party room without hitting
them first and N's are always created 'sleeping'.

this isn't a bug, it's a feature. it lets the nyphos and the leppies
get their fair swings at you.

                                                  (also Version 5.3)
After checking around with a few friends, including one who got
the amulet, I found out that when a 'party room' is created,
      these possibilites exist:

      1) in a large room, is good chance that some monsters will be sleeping,
but most likely you are sure to find some awake, if not most
      2) in a small room, for some reason it always seems that the monsters
are awake, (especially if you are teleported into it) but I
guess this is by chance... although it always seems that way.
perhaps the monsters wake each other up, who knows....

So, either you have a bug in you version, or just terrible luck.
