[gnu.emacs.bug] GNU emacs bug report ..

JAYANT%BNR.CA@CORNELLC.CIT.CORNELL.EDU (Jayant Kelkar, J.) (03/11/89)

I am using an HP9000S300 series model 360 using 68030 and 68882 running
hpux-6.2 (new assembler) -- Has "signal" been fixed in this revision ?
Termtype 98550 OR bobcat.

I am trying to run emacs-18.52, encountered the same problems with
emacs-18.49 also. Have not tried any other version.

Problem is as follows. When editting a file the cursor refuses to leave
the top line. ^N and ^P don't do much good. ^V returns the mesage "End
of buffer" even though there is a lot more text. M-X V returns "Begining
of buffer". I have the same problem in M-X Info where a long Node cannot
be viewed as ' ' (space) returns the end of buffer message and RUB the
other message. This is true when either the whole of the editor window is
used OR the window is split horizontally ( using ^X 2).

The other interseting thing is that even though the cursor does not move
^N and ^P do change the value of the point as emacs knows it. ^L redraws
the screen properly with the cursor at the correct place. ^F and ^B work
as though the current line is on the top line of the window. The cursor
goes to the begining of the top line if we ^F past the end of the current
line. And the line-number is correct as emacs knows it. On input the
text is added to the proper location as suggested by the value of the
point (^X =).

In case the screen is split vertically (using ^X 5) the cursor moves
all over the screen BUT vertical (^V etc.) scrolling is not possible.
Can scroll right left.

I am using the s-hpux.h and m-hp9000s300.h files, and have left the
config.h file alone otherwise.

The problem is reproducible in or out of X-11 environment, and also using
TERMCAP OR TERMINFO.

I shall be glad to help reproduce problems, and/or test fixes, take
suggestions etc.

I would also like to added to the mailing list for getting news re: emacs
and emacs.bug if possible. If this is not possible please send me the
address of the person who can bundle the news on a timely basis.

Thanks

Jayant Kelkar.
