In GNU Emacs 18.52.6 of Wed Mar 8 1989 on guinan (xenix) I type ^X ^F 01234567890123 "(New file)" displays in the echo area... okay so far... I type some characters. ^X ^S to save the file "Wrote /u/kayvan/01234567890123" appears in the echo area Now I type ^X ^F 01234567890123 "File /u/kayvan/01234567890123 no longer exists!" appears in the echo area The file is no longer there. Subsequent changes and writes seem to work, but no file appears. The same sequence with file 0123456789012 works fine. I found this while working on an elisp file I called mail-extras.el everything seemed to work fine (I kept getting the "Wrote mail-extras.el" message so I assumed it was writing okay). I exited emacs and came back in later to find that the file was gone!!! This was a major annoyance!!! ---Kayvan Kayvan Sylvan @ Transact Software, Inc. -*- Mountain View, CA (415) 961-6112 Internet: mrspoc!kayvan@apple.com UUCP: ...!{apple,pyramid,mips}!mrspoc!kayvan
