This one is for Rogue Wizards: I have heard different things on side effects of wearing rings, for instance: -- Rings of Regeneration make you consume food faster. -- All "good" rings use more food -- A ring has a limited life and after that it acts against you (or at least not in your favor). Could somebody set me straight on the properties of rings? I would also like to know ways in which I can tell what kind of ring I've put on without reading an identify scroll on them (I know about regeneration and strength). Thanks, inuxa!rael

Seems any ring related to strength consumes food (even cursed (i.e., -) add strength rings!), so does maintain armor (!). Never had a ring 'wear out' on me. Stealth: Walk by sleeping monsters w/out waking them up. Searching: Detect things just by walking by (i.e., traps and hidden doors). See Invisible: In old versions, the @ blanked out while it was asking what to call it. Maintain Armor: If you run into a Rust Monster, your armor doesn't rust. Sustain Strength: If you run into an Ant, stings have no effect. Teleportation: Obvious Aggravate Monster: Everything in the dungeon comes at you at once even normally quiescent monsters like E's and L's. Slow Digestion: Pretty subtle, you really have to be watching to notice this one. Rings of Protection and Increase Damage don't really show any outward signs (except monsters don't hit as well, and you hit harder). (Did I miss any?) =Spencer

While the effect of a single ring of slow digestion may be very subtle, try putting TWO such rings on at the same time. If your experience is like mine, you will not have to worry about food for the duration.

O.K. I give up. What does a ring of added sight do? This is in srogue version 2.0. I know it makes your eyes tingle like casting a spell of see invisible, but it will not take care of blindness. BTW, our version is full of bugs. Saved games are lost games. When they are restarted you are in the same position,as you were before, but on level 1 with 0 gold. Furthermore, the only treasure you ever find are potions of clear thought. It gets really silly real fast. Another bug is the fight till I feel bad command. Normally it will stop you from fighting when you get below half your hit points, but when you are fight ing a monster that paralyzes you it never realizes when you recover and sits there fighting away with it till you die. (You don't get any hits on it at all. I was 'hacking' away at a goul with a +5,+5 THS for about 5 minutes and watched my hitpoints dwindle from about 60 to 0 in increments of 2 & 3.) The only way to avoid this is to do it by hand. If there are any solutions for these problems please send me mail. advTHANKSance -- ihnp4--\ fritzz the Zebra decvax--\ Now, for $15,000, name a akgua----\ small sea animal: dcdwest---\ Shrimp cocktail. kgbvax-----\ ucbvax-------- sdcsvax -- sdcc3 -- fritzz

I am contantly finding myself caught by srogue's paralysis bug, but after a few untimely deaths, I figured out how to save myself: interrupt the game with a ^C ( or whatever your interrupt is). It will ask you if you want to quit - say no and continue playing. You are unfrozen and can beat on it again. Note that you must do this *quickly* before it kills you. tom -- Tom Christiansen University of Wisconsin Computer Science Systems Lab ...!{allegra,heurikon,ihnp4,seismo,uwm-evax}!uwvax!tom tom@wisc-crys.arpa

[] Does anybody know how much extra food rings cause you to consume in Advanced Rogue Version 2.0? Thanks. Steven Berson steven@ucla-cs.arpa ...{ihnp4,ucbvax}!ucla-cs!steven
