[gnu.emacs.bug] Wall and RMAIL problems

jgarb@CSD360B.ERIM.ORG (Joe Garbarino) (07/07/89)

Hello. I'm Joe Garbarino from ERIM in Ann Arbor, Mi. First, let me
compliment you on your very nice editor. We are using it extensively
on both our Unix and VAX/VMS computers. Our users are very pleased
with the fact the they can move between systems and use the same
editor, and a powerful one at that!

We are having a couple small problems that I haven't been able to
resolve. I'm not sure they are bugs, but I don't know who else to
ask.

The first concerns users on text terminals and the wall command. If a
wall broadcast is received by a user working on a text terminal, emacs
refuses any more input, including the C-g C-g sequence. The only way
I have found of recovering is killing the emacs process. I don't
really know if this is an emacs problem, but I was wondering if you
had seen this sort of thing and knew of a solution.

The second problem is with the protection that the RMAIL file gets. We
like to allow read access to all files, but when the RMAIL file gets
created, it gets the default protection, instead of the protection
read-write for owner and no access otherwise. I was just wondering if
this is the desired effect, and if not, what to do to fix it. I have
changed the default umask to 77 in the interim.

Thanks again for the great editor!
