[net.games.rogue] Suggested Amendments to the Basic Game

gary@ur-cvsvax.UUCP (Gary Sclar) (11/04/84)

The game of rogue is a very interesting game, fun to play, because of it's
probabilistic nature. You never know whether that next centaur is going to
be the one to do you in. But it might be even more fun if there were some
facility for altering and/or renovating the basic scenario;cast of
characters and found weapons/items. For instance- have you ever wondered
what it might be like if, Indiana Jones style, you were able to whip out a
.45 calibre pistol or an AK 47 assault rifle and deal with that Troll the
righteous way. How about a new class of things to find; i.e.- powders. One
could find and "snort" cocaine, PCP, heroin, or maybe real bad things like
Draino or baby laxative. What about some mode of conveyance round the
dungeon. Wouldn't it be nice to find a Harley-Davidson in a tunnel and ride
around. What about the fun of being able to run down a hobgobblin. Let me
be even more daring a suggest a new scenario- you are a real rogue- a
junkie in a burned out tenement in the south Bronx, and you have to make it
down from the roof, collecting caches of drugs as you go, careful to
avoid/defeat other junkies, pimps, gangs, hustlers and the cops as you
decend. Battles could be wagged with switchblades and zip guns. Perhaps
somewhat less fun, but certainly far more relevant to these modern times.
How 'bout a
variant set on a deserted space station where you have to search the
various cabins and run out of things like food and oxygen, do battle with
assorted aliens; etc. I would love some responses to these casual
suggestions: address= rochester!cvsvax!gary (Gary Sclar; Center for Visual

How about "mines" that you could drop that would blow up anything that
runs over it, including yourself. At least it would have to wound
a dragon and jabberwock and take care of things like trolls and stuff.
These would have to be very rare, of course, and limited in number,
something like 1% with a maximum of 4 mines. (The monsters I mention
are from 5.3).

I'm user-friendly -- I don't byte, I nybble....

There is a version like that except its a bomb and whatever
it hits has a chance of being blown up. It's called nrogue V 82.
