JERRY%HMCVAX.BITNET@MITVMA.MIT.EDU (09/24/89)
I have just finished reading the version of FTP on prep.ai.mit.edu and it is not clear from that message whether bug-gnu-emacs is a mailbox or a mailing list. Please bear with me.... I would like to obtain the current version of emacs for VMS. I have tried FTPing to cc.utah.edu (per the instructions within "FTP" -- the file), and I have used the anonymous user id and the password of guest.... Currently, this user id has been disabled on cc.utah.edu. There is no evidence that this is temporary or due to the time of day or the day of the week (and I was trying this at 7am on a Sunday Utah time.) So I assume that this path to VMS emacs is down for the count. Is there a new path? If so, on which host is it, using what as an id and password? Please remember, I believe this is a mailbox, not a mailing list, so please mail me a reply. (Or, if it is a mailing list, is it appropriate to add me to it?) And also, if I might make a suggestion: perhaps the files FTP, DISTRIB, MACHINES, et. al., should have a date embedded which suggests when the file was last updated. This will help users understand how relevant the contents of the files are. And please, update FTP to reflect the status of cc.utah.edu.
