What is the name and full function of the scroll that causes whatever weapon you are wielding to give off a flash of light? Here is what I know about it: 1. After reading the scroll and seeing the flash of light, I have observed that the affected weapon gains +1,+1. 2. You can Zap with the weapon. 3. If you Zap indescriminately, you get some cynical message implying that you just wasted something good and the gods are laughing at you. 4. However, I once waited until my "enchanted" mace gave off a flash of light during battle and made a Nymph disappear (teleport or die, I'm not sure). 5. If you read another of these scrolls before Zapping the weapon, the weapon disappears. Thanks, John Bell

> What is the name and full function of the scroll that causes > whatever weapon you are wielding to give off a flash of light? > The name of the scroll is 'Vorpalize Weapon'. It seems to have replaced the 'Genocide' scroll in older version of Rogue. It's first noticable ef- fect is to raise the stats on your weapon by 2 points (distributed random- ly, I believe, on the 'to hit' and 'to damage' stats). It's more obscure effect is to make the weapon more effective against a particular type of monster (randomly chosen). If you use an 'Identify' scroll on your weapon after using the 'Vorpalize', you'll find out what monster the weapon has been attuned to (it'll say something like: '+2,+2 long sword of Bat slay- ing'). The zapping power of the weapon is, I've found, to be it's most useless function. Basically, it allows you to zap ONE monster of the type the weapon is attuned to to oblivion. It's a one shot deal and I haven't no- ticed it to miss. robert -- Robert Viduya Office of Computing Services Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta GA 30332 Phone: (404) 894-4669 ...!{akgua,allegra,amd,hplabs,ihnp4,masscomp,ut-ngp}!gatech!gitpyr!robert ...!{rlgvax,sb1,uf-cgrl,unmvax,ut-sally}!gatech!gitpyr!robert

Yours happened to make your mace into 'a mace of nymph slaying' (as you would have discovered using a identify scroll). Unfortunately, for some reason it sometimes seems to work permanently and sometimes goes away after one zap. We have yet to figure out why this variation happens.
