A staff of striking is a very good weapon if it is WIELDED. I have been a total winner of SR9.0 and have gone below level 30 in 5.5 using a staff of striking. Try it! Disaster

I think I'll stick to my +2,+2 TWS that I start off with, though. From what I remember, a staff of striking is just a +3,+3 staff. That means that you get a 15% better chance of hitting the monster, and you do 4-9 points of damage from each blow (not counting other bonuses). better than a +1,+1 mace, but I think that you can do better. -- ihnp4--\ fritzz the Zebra decvax--\ akgua----\ "No matter where you go, dcdwest---\ there you are." kgbvax-----\ ucbvax-------- sdcsvax -- sdcc3 -- fritzz

The staff of striking has a number of charges that make it very useful for a couple of strikes. You can either zap with it, or wield it and hit (and you must be next to the monster). I think it uses one charge when you zap, and a double charge (and double damage) when you strike, but it just might be the other way round (it's easy to tell if you identify the wand before using it). Advantages: It always hits even when you are confused, if it is charged. Two blows with a charged wand will ocasionally kill an animal that you had no chance of killing otheriwse. Once the charges are gone, I prefer to wield my mace. - Toby Robison (not Robinson!) {allegra, decvax!ittvax, fisher, princeton}!eosp1!robison

The staff of striking indeed was a powerful weapon in Rogue 5.2 and earlier. Wielded and used as an ordinary weapon weapon it did lots of damage and never missed, which was especially useful against high armor class monsters like Xorns. It also lasted the whole game. However in Rogue 5.3 it was effectively taken away. When wielded and used as a weapon each swap with it uses up one (or sometimes two) charge(s), making wielding it not advantagous any more. I don't really feel that the wand of striking all that useful any more. -- Bill Sebok Princeton University, Astrophysics {allegra,akgua,burl,cbosgd,decvax,ihnp4,noao,princeton,vax135}!astrovax!wls

i don't think you can wield a staff of striking in super rogue 2.0. also, i noticed there is a difference between plate mail and plate armor. neither was enchanted as i was a magician and had identified them. but one (mail) was ac 2 and the other ac 3. -- I'm not a programmer, I'm a hardware type.
