I've been having an annoying problem which I'm sure will be obvious to somebody. I've been trying to install gnuemacs on two VAX 750s under VMS. The version(s) I have were created from backup sets from other 750s running the same versions of VMS (4.6 and 4.7). The emacs on the original machines runs flawlessly. On my machines, all files wind up being opened read-only. (Toggle-read-only resets this and allows edits to be saved in existing files only.) New files can't be saved as the directory is also listed as write protected. ACLs are not in use. All emacs files and directory have world RWED access, as well as the directory and files being edited. GNUEMACS 18.44 and 18.52 have been tried. Recompiling, linking, dumping don't make a difference. EDT works fine (as it ever is going to ...). Anybody have any clues? Please reply to flagg@athena.mit.edu
