[gnu.emacs.bug] M-DEL on Ultrix 3.0

tml@HEMULI.TIK.VTT.FI (Tor Lillqvist) (02/03/90)

I recently started administering a microvax running Ultrix 3.0, so I
am new to Ultrix (I have used HP-UX before.) There is a problem with
emacs 18.55: If I type M-DEL (i.e. character 255) from an xterm
window, emacs goes to sleep for a very long time. No input is
accepted, not even C-G. If I say kill -INT <pid> from an other
terminal, I get the "Quit" message after some minutes, and emacs works
as normal again.

Other characters with the 8th bit set show up in Emacs with the 8th
bit stripped.

This problem has probably been discussed before, but I haven't read
gnu.emacs.bug as Emacs has worked just fine on our HP machines.
