        Merlyn,
I would definately like to get hold of 18k of hints.
I have not yet won a game, but have done fairly well,
and have been down as far as the 22nd level. (I was in over
my head though, and got killed by a Xorn.) I am new to notes,
so I hope your response reaches me at !smu!clardy.

                                       Thanx in advance,

                                                        James Clardy

Merlyn--

I sent you (by mail) a request for your 18K worth of Rogue hints.
Either you didn't respond or else it didn't get to you or else your
reply didn't get back to me (I suspect one of the latter two).
Could I have them please?

Someone (me? remember a name? HA!) posted an article a week or two ago
offering to send some helpful hints for playing rogue. Well, I replied
by mail, only to find out yesterday that a bug in our vnews took all
replies and tossed 'em in the 'ol bitbucket. If whoever submitted the
original article could forward the info to me, I would be grateful.
Sorry for clogging up the netwaves with such drivel.

P.S. I appologize for what I thought about you for not sending the
info!

I, too, sent a reply via mail to Merlyn Leroy and have not gotten the 18k
of rogue hints. Are you sending them out, Merlyn? Please don't forget me.

Why does everybody want instant gratification?

The true nature of rogue lies in discovering how it works, not
in winning it from an instruction manual.
If that sounds mystical, remember that rogue is a fantasy.
I have gotten to level 20 with two or three hints from a
local rogue-aholic. Certainly less than 18K worth of hints.

Pardon me if this has been discussed in this newsgroup already.

Merlyn,

Tried to send you mail, but my system wouldn't accept it.
I'd like 18K worth of hints.

Thanks,

Mary

Through our experience we have found a number of hints for playing
thieves, namely using the pickpocket ability.

     1) Always try to pickpocket the quartermaster. If you succeed, you
can usually get a good magic item out of it. Also, the quartermaster
doesn't know if you attempted it, so he will show you his wares
	 regardless of the outcome.

     2) In combat (believe it or not) you can pickpocket the weapon that
the monster is wielding. In other words, if an elf is attacking
you with a +5,+5 long sword and cuts your hitpoints in half,
you can take his sword away and use it against him!!!!

WARNING: Pickpocketing is a random endeavor. First of all you
may not succeed in pickpocketing anything, and secondly
you could end up pickpocketing some other item that the
		   beastie is carrying.

Remember there is no honor among thieves.
