[gnu.emacs] "Left" and "Right" keys on a Sun 3/50

Hello,
I have a question regarding the "Left" (and "Right") keys on a
Sun 3/50 with regards to Gnu Emacs.

At some point I noted that when running emacs on my sun, the
"Left" key acted as a Meta key (as on a Symbolics) so that it was a
modifier key (like control or shift). This is great! However, this is
NOT the case when I rlogin to one of the VAX hosts and use Emacs there.
The "left" key has no apparent effect at all.

How is the action of these keys set? Is it somewhere in termcap?
Is it something specific to Gnu Emacs only?

The version of Emacs for the Sun is:18.33.5
The version of Emacs for the Vax is:18.33.10

Thanks,

No, the problem is that a normal rlogin only passes 7 bits, while the
meta key sets the 8th bit. So try 'rlogin machine -8' so that it
passes 8 bit data, this should fix your problem.

   Thanks,
