Hack is more fun than rogue, right? Hack is different from rogue, right? Lets have some discussion on hack, and if theres enough then we can start a new newsgroup. 1) How many ways are there to steal from shopkeepers? 2) What is safe to eat and what isn't? 3) What do the scrolls do? 4) Rings, wands, etc. ? 5) Other questions?

Then leave wait up for doggy to come back the dog will drop what he stole You can also try to kill the shopkeeper but you probably will die trying I killed one once by using a wand of polymorph on him. Turned him into an Orc. 2) Ususlly dead gnomes and food ration, candy bars, tin cans, eggs etc... Only problem is sometimes food gets spoiled. 3) the scrolls are just like the ones in rogue different names. 4) there are basically the same wands as in rogue but there sre more like wands of wishing, etc..... Five more ways in addition to those submitted by Dan ( the Man ) Bidinger (which were: (1) let the dog steal something for you, and (2) polymorph the shopkeeper, then kill the beastie). 3) Use a scroll of teleportation (frequently you can find one in the shop you're robbing ...). 4) Use a wand of digging and make another exit from the shop. 5) Use a wand of sleep on the shopkeeper (or a wand of teleport). 6) Quaff a potion of haste self (or invisibility), then sneak out. 7) Lure the shopkeeper away from the door by throwing something at him, take a risk of being killed, and sneak past him. Do it close to the door - the guy frequently seems to be hastened. The best way, however, is to find a trapdoor in the shop. If you eat a Dead Leprechaun, you will be given a permanent spell of random teleportation (similar to a Ring of Teleportation in Rogue). Once you have this then anytime you go into a shop just pick up all you can carry and wait around a while. While this may not be the best method, it won't get you killed, and will be good for all shops you enter. If you find a ring of teleport control, then you really have it made. Try eating some floating eyes or nurses sometime. But don't eat a dead dog, its bad luck! Sean Casey UK Dept. of Mathematical Sciences
