[gnu.emacs] How to get off GNU lists

rms@WHEATIES.AI.MIT.EDU (Richard Stallman) (03/30/89)

If you want to be removed from a GNU mailing list, please don't send a
request to the list. This annoys large numbers of readers.

The right method is to append "-request" to the list name and send
your request there. This is a general net convention; whenever you
want to get off of a mailing list "foo@host" (or be added to it), send
your request to "foo-request@host" rather than to "foo@host".
Always try this first; if it fails, then as a last resort try sending
to the list itself.

You will be glad other people follow this rule for the lists you are on.
