This must have all been said before, but I was just peeking in on this newsgroup and somebody asked so here is what I know: Rogue was originally written and designed by Glenn Wichman and Michael Toy at UC Santa Cruz. Michael Toy wrote the game and took it with him when he went to Berkeley where Ken Arnold jumped in and blessed Rogue with his additions and improvements until it reached a point where the source code no longer resembled the humble little hack that Michael Toy brought ot Berkeley. Somewhere along the line, an early version of the source to rogue got sent out on the net. I don't know for sure, but I suspect that Super Rogue and Advanced Rogue and whatever other ultra-rogues exist are all based on that code. The "official" version of rogue, at least in the eyes of the authors is 5.3 -- 5.3 is maintained and guarded by Ken Arnold with the full knowledge and blessing of Glenn Wichman and Michael Toy. Spun off form 5.2 and incorporating many 5.3 features and a few twists of its own (but still your average rogue game) is IBM PC rogue. Which is for sale, as has already been pointed out on the net. IBM PC Rogue exists due to the efforts of Jon Lane and Michael Toy. That's the sccop as I see it, (using a freinds account) Michael Toy
