Even passive monsters such as L's......so the safest thing to do is to go to the next level down (unless you think you can handle 'em all). ....Wondering Where I Am..... [] High pitched humming is a cursed scroll of hold monster (in every version I've seen). It bothers wakes up all the monsters on that level. Jeff Turner ihnp4!drutx!jt ATTISL-DR

This is the scroll of aggravate monster. Not a good one to read. Rob.

However, if you happen to have an extra (?) scroll of Scare Monster and lots of food, the Aggravate Monster scroll can be useful for gaining a experience points relatively safely. I don't advise this on levels with Dragons (for obvious reasons) What you do is stand on the SM scroll, and read the AM scroll. Then let the monsters come to you. Simple, eh? Red PS: Be careful when you do this on a level with Medusae. If you get confused, sit until it wears off. If you don't, you may end up moving off the scroll accidently, and even more accidently turning it into dust.

one of the uses I have found for this is to flush out L's N's and I's. If they are in a nasty spot where I can't use my bow, I try to search the rest of the floor then read the agravate monster scroll in an open room. The N,L,I comes out in the open, and I KILL it. Mike mopa@ur-univax
