My "naive user" question is not of netwide interest, so please reply by mail to SQUASH@MATH.BERKELEY.EDU I currently read news in UNIX using the rn command. I would *like* to read news in EMACS. How do I do this? When I type M-x rnews a series of messages flash by in the minibuffer. The only one I can read says Prefrobnicating and the names of many news groups flash by in the (inverse video) mode line. Then I see in the minibuffer: No news is good news. But there *IS* unread news. If I C-x C-z and then type rn there is news for me to read. Does anyone have a guess as to what I need to do to fix this problem? jonathan king

I'd like to conduct an informal net survey. If you read news under GNU Emacs please send me a note simply stating which newsreader you use. I will summarize the results in a few weeks. kyle jones <kyle@cs.odu.edu> ...!uunet!talos!kjones

Four people e-mailed to me requesting that I post any answer received on how to get M-x rnews to work in Emacs. Alas, I haven't found an answer. Knowledgeable Emacers suggested that I ask my system administrator to install Gnews 2.0. Does anyone know where a copy of Gnews 2.0 ALONG WITH detailed installation instructions can be found? If so, you can send this info to our sysadmin Paulo Ney at desouza@math.berkeley.edu Thanks. -jk
