Still on the experience level in rogue... (5.2 on 11/780) I now know thanks to you netpeople) that when you move up a level you increase by 1d12 (or 1d10?). What i noticed recently was that the amount of increase appears to be fixed in a game. For example, if you get 12 -> 13 or 14, i.e, an increase by 1-2 points, it will almost NEVER increase by any significant amount and you end up playing on level 6 with 35 points. On the other hand, if your first increase is large, say by 8-10 points, then all subsequent increases are by that amount, i.e, 12 -> 20 -> 31 -> 40, etc and then the game is playable. So, is the random number 1d12 determined ONCE in the beginning of the game and then added or calculated every time you move up a level?? i find it difficult to believe that 12 -> 13 -> 19 -> 25 -> 31 -> 35 is random compared to say,12 -> 20 -> 31 -> 40 -> 49 -> 58. Spyridon, you are absolutely...wrong. The hit points/level increase is 1d10, period. It does not depend on prior increases, in any version of rogue that I am familiar with. Any "pattern" of hit point increases in a single game is merely an artifact of the random number generator. -- Rich Kulawiec @ Purdue Unix Wombat Group rsk@purdue-asc.arpa (decvax,ihnp4,uiucdcs)!pur-ee!rsk.uucp (decwrl, hplabs, ucbvax)!purdue!rsk.uucp I'm not one to advocate violence, drugs, and insanity, but it's always worked for me." ---Dr. Hunter S.
