[gnu.emacs] Thanks and answers of : Problems using Webster

iu@grasp.cis.upenn.edu (SiuLeong Iu) (07/21/89)

Thanks for all the following people in answering my question which
I proposed in the article 1418 of gnu.emacs about the problems in using
the Webster:
Dirk Grunwald, S. Mujica, Russ Nelson and Steve Hayman

The answers I got are summaried as follows.

- We need to locate our own webster server because Boston U. has restricted
who could use their server in order to avoid their system to be overloaded.
(It seems to me that there is copyright problem on using the Webster
dictionary. See the article 1429 and 1430. If so, I think the suggestion
by Sergio Mujica that creating `our' GNU dictionary is a very good project.)

- If you have a NeXT machine, there is a Webster server on that machine.
You can ftp it from iuvax.cs.indiana.edu (129.79.254.192), it's in the
file "pub/NeXT-websterd.shar". If you ftp it please send
Steve Hayman (sahayman@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu) a note so that he can
keep track of who is using it.

- George Hadden (hadden@src.honeywell.com) has an on-line version of a
pocket webster dictionary. He has put a copy on src.honeywell.com as
  /incoming/DICT and DICT.INDEX. Sergio Mujica (mujica@cs.ucla.edu) has
some emacs lisp code to use it.

PS. Please do not bother the people I mentioned if it is not necessary.
