[net.games.rogue] Meaning of Monster Statistics

In perusing a core dump of a 5.5 Advanced Rogue game, I came across the
description of the monsters.  Following are a few entries.  Can anyone explain
what each field means?  When I have an answer I believe, I will post the
numbers for all of them.  Please mail replies to avoid flooding the net.

pit fiend	15-16

The second column is the to-hit roll and the third is the damage roll, I
assume.  The missing stuff for the pit fiend occurs later on, so I assume
it is just split up for some reason.  (Why?)  But what about the other
column?  What does that mean?  And how do I interpret the numbers after
the ghost?

Also, where is the probability for the other stuff the beasties do, such as
the ant stinging?

All informed answers appreciated.  No requests please, as I will be posting

PS I have a string which might be the wizards password.  How do I convert the
string to the working password?
