I'm running Emacs 18.55 on a diskless VAXstation 2000 and am having a problem with the display-time.el package. When I execute M-x display-time the machine hangs for a few minutes (gobbling up CPU) and then just comes back empty-handed. On previous versions (18.54) it used to come back with 'time and load' (the message that's temporararily displayed in the mode line in the normal course of events) written on the mode line but still wouldn't display the time. I'm sure it has something to do with it being a diskless machine as the very same executable behaves normally on the server and other machines. Has anyone encountered this problem before and found a solution to it? Any help would be appreciated, Pat. ------------------------------------
