[gnu.emacs] Can't get ksh to write in $HISTFILE in GNU Emacs' "*shell*" buffer

danj1@cbnewse.ATT.COM (Dan Jacobson) (01/22/90)

How do I get ksh in the "*shell*" buffer to remember commands in the
$HISTFILE ? I've seen it done on a VAX, but it doesn't happen on this
IBM mainframe, both Sys V.2. In my .emacs_ksh file I even have:
"print -s bla #supposed to be the way to get ksh to start writing to $HISTFILE"
but all I get is the one line "bla". I also have
"HISTFILE=$HOME/.sh_history HISTSIZE=4000" in .profile, both exported.

Versions: Ksh 11/16/88b, set -o stuff: "Current option settings:
allexport off, bgnice off, emacs on, errexit off, gmacs off, ignoreeof
off, interactive on, keyword off, markdirs off, monitor on, noexec off,
noclobber on, noglob off, nolog off, nounset off, privileged off,
restricted off, trackall off, verbose off, vi off, viraw off, xtrace
off". "GNU Emacs 18.55.11 of Fri Dec 1 1989 on ihlpa (usg-unix-v)".

Hmmm.. is BASH compilable on Sys V Amdahl/IBM mainframe yet? (Last
time I tried, the makefile left me feeling "left out".)
