As the author of mh-e, I should point out that many people's perceptions of mh-e are based on old, out-of-date version. The new mh-e is much faster than the old version and does almost everything that Thomas Narten's (narten@cs.albany.edu) patches add. You can ftp the latest version from primost.cs.wisc.edu in the file ~ftp/pub/mh-e.el.Z /Jim
