[alt.sca] reopening discussion of rec.org.sca

aluko@portia.Stanford.EDU (Stephen Goldschmidt) (08/24/89)

This is a call for discussion for a USENET news-group "rec.org.sca".

The purpose of rec.sca would be to discuss matters of interest to
participants in the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (SCA).
The Society is a non-profit educational corporation which organizes
re-enactments of the Medieval culture in the United States and
several foreign countries.

If created, rec.org.sca should replace the current alt.sca, which,
because it is in an alternative news hierarchy, is not available
as a newgroup at many sites. (This is the main reason for the name
change.)

Note that discussion in the sca mailing list (also called the "SCA
Digest") would be cross-posted to the new group, just as is
currently being done with alt.sca. Therefore, the discussions in
this group would be available to sites which do not get rec.*.

Like alt.sca, rec.org.sca would be unmoderated.

Discussion is directed to the newsgroup "news.groups". If you cannot
post to news.groups, I may be able to forward your posting for you:
   aluko@portia.Stanford.EDU or labrea!portia.Stanford.EDU!aluko

The call for votes on rec.sca will probably be sometime in September.
The vote will last 30 days and will be conducted via computer mail.
I am seeking volunteers to act as vote-takers. If the vote favors
this proposal, the switch from alt.sca to rec.sca would occur in October.

Now is the time to comment on the proposal, i.e., the proposed name,
content, and unmoderated nature of the group. Do not try to vote until
the call for votes is posted!
