In advanced rogue, version 5.5, black puddings can be zonked
with a wand of fire, a wand of cancellation, a wand of disintegration,
a wand of petrification (anti-matter), a wand of degenerate monster,
a wand of drain life, a wand of slow monster, a wand of fear, and perhaps
a wand of teleport monster.
You can set traps, although in 5.5 the monster just shows up on the next
level down...where the trapdoor let him fall to.
Various scrolls will also work...hold, sleep, etc.
These wands and scrolls also work on white puddings.

how do you kill a Black Pudding. I hit the ^*%*& a million times and there
just came more of them. Ice and Lightning had no effect. Is there
anyway to kill them besides to use cancellation and then zap him with fire
or something.

You could always create a pit (if your dexterity is high enough), and lead the black pudding into it. They are notoriously gullible -- you should be able to drop a whole roomful of them into a single pit. Try stealing from them first, though. Often they are carrying magic items, especially if they are coming out of a party room. -- Reality is for those who have no imagination. . . b janz watmath!watarts!bjanz OR watmath!watdcs!bbjanz
