<you begin to feel better> In 5.3 rogue, if you have something bad in your pack ( like a potion of confusion or posion), is there any way to feed it to a monster? Also, can the monsters fall into traps? -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ted Nolan ...decvax!mcnc!ncsu!ncrcae!usceast!ted 6536 Brookside Circle ...akgua!usceast!ted Columbia, SC 29206 ("Hid the bell with a blot, she did") --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No, you can't feed things to monsters, although you can throw them at them. Objects thrown at monsters do small amounts of damage, but as far as I know, have no other effect. Traps? Monsters seem immune to them...which is too bad; leading a beasty over a trapdoor would seem a fair way to dispose of the critter... -- Rsk the Wombat UUCP: { decvax, icalqa, ihnp4, inuxc, sequent, uiucdcs } !pur-ee!rsk { decwrl, hplabs, icase, psuvax1, siemens, ucbvax } !purdue!rsk "Now wher're you boys goin' with all that beer?"

Here's the only answer..... On our version of rogue, a potion of "see invisible" (i.e. fruit juice, soda, etc.) DOES cure your blindness. In fact, even a HEALING potion cures blindness. Here's the question: How many of you folks out there have a game called nrogue (using the "v" command, ROGUE V 4/9/8n - That n is either a 2 or a 0)? What does a ring of protection do? If you have a ring of +1 teleport, what does it do? What does -1 teleport ring do, and how is different from the above ring? How do you use scare monster in 3.7.1 and Super Rogues when there is no "m" command as in 5.3? Thanks in advance ___ Gandalf the Grey [Official Dumb Name Of The 1984 Summer Olympics]

> What does a ring of protection do? It reduces either the chance of a monster hitting you, or the amount of damage it does once it hits...I fergits which. > If you have a ring of +1 teleport, what does it do? > What does -1 teleport ring do, and how is different from the above ring? Rings of teleportation are *always* cursed when you find them; you may read a Remove Curse scroll to cure this. I believe that teleport you randomly about a level every 1dN turns, and I think N is on the order of 20. > How do you use scare monster ... when there is no "m" command as in 5.3? You either (a) step on it with a full pack, so that you can't pick it up, or (b) pick it up, and drop it when you need it...but don't move off it until you're sure you've killed all the beasties! -- ---Rsk UUCP: { decvax, icalqa, ihnp4, inuxc, sequent, uiucdcs } !pur-ee!rsk { decwrl, hplabs, icase, psuvax1, siemens, ucbvax } !purdue!rsk I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, The sinners are much more fun...and only the good die young!

Hello. To start off, I am playing Rogue! for the IBM-PC, version 1.1 SN:1349 (Mr. Mctesq was here). My questions: Presumably the Blank scroll and Dull potion are nothing, but are they any good in this version? I haven't needed to stand on a scroll in order for it to work (in fact, I don't think you can.). Also, how does one use a staff of teleport to? I don't know. As side note, if you can send me the Wizard's Password, it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance- Ronald C. Rosul Jr. (vc155ah!unmc!unmvax)

> Hello. To start off, I am playing Rogue! for the IBM-PC, version 1.1 > SN:1349 (Mr. Mctesq was here). Here's one person who follows good advice. Actually, IBM rogue is a 5.2 like game. I thought that Michael Toy did not actually work on the IBM PC rogue. Does anyone know who did? >My questions: Presumably the Blank scroll and Dull potion are nothing, but >are they any good in this version?... It will not give you a message. Here is an example of a blank scroll (this is the ONLY way that it can happen (in this version): Read what (* for list)? Call it? If you move at all, turn "invisible", then it is not blank. It is, respectively, teleport, and see invisible. Blank scrolls do indeed do nothing. Dull potions may be something else in 5.2, but I don't remeber what. > ...I haven't needed to stand on a scroll in >order for it to work (in fact, I don't think you can.).... No! In 5.2, when you drop scare monster scrolls, most monsters will not attack you. > ...Also, how does one use >a staff of teleport to? I don't know... A staff of teleport is used by: z<dir><name>, and will teleport the monster to you. This is useless, unless you use a monster to block another monster. > ...As side note, if you can send me the >Wizard's Password, it would be appreciated... The wizard's password is said to do nothing in IBM-PC rogue. > ...Thanks in advance- Your welcome. Happy rogueing. Here's an interesting question: How did Rogue get its name? (Rogue (n) - thief.) In the first few versions, thieves and thief abilities were not included. Only the fighter, and magician (to an extent) were in the versions of 3.7/5.2/5.3. Interesting... hou2e!ksl
