I have this problem with advanced rogue 1.3: Namely, when I meet up with
a Cockatrice on level 16 or so, lately instead of stiffening my limbs it's
been turning me to stone. I'm aggravated as hell, because this has never hap-
pened before but lately it's happened 4 times. Does this have anything to do
with what I was carrying? I had two scrolls of enchantment, a scroll of ac-
quirement, searching and add intelligence rings which I was wearing, and I
had on +6 plate mail. Any ideas???

I think a ring of protection might help. I had the same
problem with Basilisk's in Berkeley SuperRogue, until
using the above type rings ... or you could use a scroll
of genocide to get rid of them. There are various other
ways of getting temporary protection (potions of phasing,
