I think it would be interesting to benchmark various different machines using gcc as the compiler. This partially removes one variable: how much performance is due to the compiler and how much to the hardware. So, I'm interested in getting hooked up with people with both Unix licenses and gcc running on different hardware platforms. I'll provide the benchmark suite (although additions are cheerfully accepted). I have gcc1.30 on a 4.3bsd VAX 780 and a Sun 3/60. Anyone have gcc running on a Sun 3/260 that's willing to help? How about a Sun 4/260? VAX 8700? Convex? Tahoe? Brand X? -- UUCP: {ames, decwrl, prls, pyramid}!mips!earl USPS: MIPS Computer Systems, 930 Arques Ave, Sunnyvale CA, 94086

Well, yes, we've got gcc 1.30 running on the Convexen here. (finally.) Send me your benchmark code, but do it quick, my last day here is Friday. (And I still have to get the diffs back to FSF.)
