GAWK has indeed been ported to VMS, by Warner Losh. The fall 1988 VAX SIG tapes had the diffs from the standard Gnu GAWK and the standard package, though in compressed TAR savesets (with of course decompress and TAR reader programs in [vax000.tools]). I now have the full text as vms share files; it will appear on the spring '89 VAX tapes. By the way, our Internet FTP link has been broken and I find I cannot FTP to prep.ai.mit.edu at the moment. As a result, while I want to ensure the most current Gnu materials can be included on the S89 tapes, I cannot do so. Can anyone help me get hold of newer stuff? Anything since about 2/15/89 is of interest. In particular I want to get the current releases of GCC and G++ and their libraries. I have GCC 1.33 for VMS but am told GCC 1.34 for VMS is far less buggy. I'd like to arrange to swap software on tape or via other means to get later releases for the sig tapes. Hopefully we'll re-acquire FTP capability sometime, but for now I'd like to ask someone to help. The VAX SIG tapes get distributed worldwide to some thousands of sites by a tree of volunteers, and so constitute a fairly reasonable way of getting the tools into the hands of people who can use them and potentially improve on them. (By the way, I'm the tape editor for those tapes.) Thanks for any offers of help.
