Several postings have asked whether code compiled using gcc must be distributed according to the copyleft. Can someone from FSF please comment on this? I am concerned that this could set a dangerous precedent. I do not currently use gcc, but may soon. I do, however use gnuemacs and want to keep some of what I produce with it "proprietary" to me. Must I purchase a commercial editor to avoid having to "freely distribute" any personal correspondence, business letters, etc.? Am I only allowed to use gnuemacs and gcc to produce more freely distributable stuff? If so, the utility of this "free" software is drastically reduced. ======================================================================== Richard Fozzard "Serendipity empowers" University of Colorado fozzard@boulder.colorado.edu (303)492-8136 or 444-3168
