[gnu.gcc] gcc -ansi and predefined macros

res@cbnews.ATT.COM (Robert E. Stampfli) (06/19/89)

Could someone please explain why certain macros such as "unix" and the
machine designator (e.g. "vax"), which are normally defined by the compiler,
are explicitly left undefined when using the -ansi option? I know this fact
is noted in the documentation. I am just curious as to why.

Thanks,
Rob Stampfli
