[gnu.gcc] cross-compiling with gcc for a pc?

bryan@UUNET.UU.NET (Bryan Boreham) (07/07/89)

I know this question comes around every three months or so, but I just
dismissed it as a stupid question before, so I have to ask it myself
now.

The question is: has anyone done any work towards using gcc to
cross-compile code for an IBM PC-type machine? My guess is that for
386 PCs, one could use the 386 machine description, and something
like the Phar Lap environment or DesqView 386 to run them. However,
for 802?86 machines, a different machine description would be
required.

Could you write to me if you have tried this, please, and I'll
summarise to the net if there is anything interesting to report.
Alternatively, send me a copy of the last summary that came across
the net, that I should have read.
