I have recently ported the Xinu operating system to one of our 68000 based controller boards. I used a compiler sold by Microtec to develop the code, and for several reasons, I would like to try the gnu compiler instead of the Microtec. Since I don't know anything about the gnu compiler, there are a few preliminary questions that I have: 1. Our development system is a Sun4/280. Can gcc be configured to execute in this environment (sparc, and SunOS 4.0), and generate 68000 code?? In other words, can it be used in a cross-development manner? 2. What other gnu software do I need in order to either compile gcc, or use it? I was assume that I need the gnu assembler. Is there a gnu loader?, or do I just use the Sun linker? I would imagine that there is an existing document that already answers these questions. A response that directs me to the particular document(s) would be sufficient. If someone out there could nudge me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. John Reed Sr Software Engineer Systech Corp. San Diego, CA {uunet, ucsd}!systech!johnr johnr%systech.uucp@ucsd
