A while back I got a product announcement that reads as follows:
"The Objective-C compiler provided with the NeXT Computer System is a high-
performance optimizing C compiler that is fully compliant with the draft
proposed standard for ANSI-C. The compiler is an enhanced version of the GNU C
Compiler (GCC), developed by the Free Software Foundation, which has been
extended by NeXT to directly compile Objective-C programs......
"The GNU Source-Level Debugger (GDB), created by the Free Software Foundation,
has been extended by NeXT to support the special features of the NeXT
development environment. The extensions provide complete source-level
debugging of Objective-C programs using standard Objective-C syntax....."
Now the obvious (and stupid?) question... are or will these Objective-C
tools (compiler and debugger) become available on other platforms from any
source (NeXT?, StepStone?, Free Software Foundation?)? If NeXT has done a
smart thing why isn't anyone following up?
