[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] gif's?

What ever happened to all the gif picture files? Last
I heard thre was a new group proposed, but it doesn't seem
to have come about.

Did a mailing list ever get started or something?

Just wondering...

I would like to hear what has become of this as well. I have docs on
the format as well as a doc on the Lempel-Zev compression method as
implemented on the Gif system. I have had one slight problem in files
sent between the IBM and the ST systems. Some of them, don't seem to
work properly. The colours seem to get messed up, ie, on the GIF pics
from the ST:TNG sent out by Steven Grimm, a lot of them seemed to be
one colour. However on the IBM systems they weren't too bad at all.

Any ideas?

The ST:STG pix were in gray scale as far as I can tell. The "grey"
viewer makes them look just fine, and I suspect that the new VGIF34
program will, too. Having two programs with the same name (vgif) is a
pain, BTW.

If anyone has an example of a program to take raster data and convert
to gif format, I have a large number of Mandelbrot views to release. I
also have some digitized b/w stuff done with a ScanJet, which I can put
in any of several formats. I know how to write it from scratch, but I
suspect that I would not have time until 1990, given the number of
"spare time" projects already in the queue.
