[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] PC OMEGA Bugs

rdmi@homxc.UUCP (R.Moats) (08/30/88)

Having assembled the various parts of the OMEGA postings, uudecoded, and
uarc'ed them. I have discovered the following bugs:

(1) The machine hangs at random points, usually when redrawing the display
(going from the city to a house or vice versa)

(2) The display is not updated correctly. When visiting the casino,
neither losses nor wins at the slots change the AU stat value.
Also, at the Rampart Healers, being healed of wounds does not increase
either your HP stat (to reflect the wounds healed) or your AU stat
(to reflect the gold spent).

Just thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth...

If I remember correctly, the README file included with PC OMEGA (specific
to the PC version, not the generic README!) specifies that going into a
house and trying to leave the house will cause the game to crash. I believe
it is also mentioned that this is not detrimental, as houses are not that
useful anyway.

Just thought you'd like to know...

I remember reading that also but, being the adventurous type,
went ahead and tried it. In fact I've done it several times,
and have not yet had it crash. There was also a posting about
healers not deducting money and not increasing hit points. Also
have not seen this bug. However, the problem with the casino
does seem exist (does not increase A.U. after winning at the
	slots).

So, when's the next posting coming out! I've got lots of
	disk space left.

I haven't encountered these problems either.

I didn't encounter this yet (as I haven't played the casino yet), but I
did have a problem at the library. After researching some magic, I was
asked if I would pay. I hit 'y' and the game responded "No payee, no
study..." After repeating this a few times, I hit 'n' and it responded
"You Philastine!" and then proceded to deduct the money anyhow.

Also, I have had some game crashes when I requested help. It seems
that if I ask for help with "everything" the game crashes, not being
able to find a file (I think, messages scrolled by on the screen very
quickly and I didn't care to repeat the action to discover what the
problem was.)

(I did manage to set a new high score by walking into pure chaos and
achieving maximum entropy, moving up several levels just before I died.
:-)

The un-rogue-like feature that I can't figure out (which prompted the
"help everything" request) is how to pick up dropped objects. If I
move onto the space, nothing happens. If I hit the ',' character, I
get prompted for how long I want to rest for. I haven't spent much
time on Omega yet, obviously, but can anyone answer this simple
question?

I haven't had a chance to try the library, but I'll give
	it one tonight.

I had that problem too, but solved it (I think). If you
pray to all the gods, then walk into chaos, you will be
protected the first time, and will have your level raised
to about 5. Comes in handy for getting into the
	explorers club and other things.

Hit the 'g' key. I still hit ',' quite a bit (damn HACK
fixation). I find the inventory routine to be quite
complex. Took almost an hour to get things into their
	proper slot.
