[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] The New PKWare

astieber@csd4.milw.wisc.edu (Anthony J Stieber) (09/09/88)

About two weeks ago Phil Katz made a presentation to the Milwaukee IBM
PC users group on file compression, which included a demo of his latest
(PK361). After the meeting I asked him about new developments.

He said that:
a Vax version (in assembler?) will be released and
a Un*x version with full source code. As well as
a programmer's tool kit for file compression
(and presumably PKWare file format reading and writing).
the price would remain the same.
source code for no other implementations besides Un*x would likely
  	  be released.

No firm dates were given. This was all two weeks ago and I could have
misheard anything he said. So I disclaim everything.

I wish Phil Katz himself would post something. He DOES read this group and
has an account at the same site I am at (loginid:katz). Use the below addresses.

The next data compression and archiving software from PKWare
can be pre-ordered. The order *MUST* state it is for the
*NEW* MS-DOS version.

Send $47 to PKWare - the address is available from
the current software and documents.

PKWare indicated the software will be available for more than
MS-DOS (UNIX, VAX, etc.), but I am not aware of a price for
versions other than the MS-DOS version, or a delivery date
for any of the software.
