Dear Pinko's & Those Who Know - even if it is only what they don't know, This is a self appraisal test. Below are a number of subjects, many of which have come up for heated discussion on the net, in the popular press, in 'The Skeptical Enquirer' and in journals specific to various disciplines. Please categorise the following into a REAL science, black arts, a massive con, and 'some underlying truth but needs a couple of centuries (i.e.alchemy) on a scale of 0 (least credible) to 10 (very firm) in the first column. In the second column, please enter, again on a scale of 0 to 10, the degree of study you have given this subject. Take you own profession (or degree subject) as 10, articles in daily or weekly newspapers as 0. The third column is slightly more abtruse; there may be some subjects which you believe are firmly entrenched in our world view, but which you believe are not infact the case (e.g. the world is round, all scientist say its round, but in your heart you know its flat). In this column, mark 10 if you fully agree with the 'conventional wisdom' on the matter, 0 if you think it is pure baloney and 5 for "don't know" (interpolating as required). If you feel up to it, you may like to perform a correlation on the results. Either way, you may unfold some 'petty predjuces' or inconsistencies (I know the world is flat, I've been to the top of the CN tower and you can *see* the horizon doesn't curve....).
