[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Source Code Librarian Posting

glcowin@uokmax.UUCP (Gregory Linn Cowin) (09/09/88)

I will post the Source Code Librarian(tm). I would have already posted it, but I've had some problems with our Pnews (posting to binaries only).

In response to some inquiries:

o The source will not be posted.

o It is only conceptually similar to RCS; it has none of the options
	  of RCS.

o It is primarily for an individual programmer to use, although it
could be used by a group.

o It does have some documentation; it is very easy to use; the installation
	  is the most difficult part.

o As with any source code revision system, it should not be used for
	  backups.

Again, it will be posted as soon as I figure out the problems with posting
to binaries on our system.

Thanks for you interest! Enjoy!

Does anyone have the source for such a program in the public domain? I
am trying to locate such a program, to port to Minix. I am beginning to
suspect I am going to have to write one myself.

Well, we're (me + two friends) are currently working on such a system.
It's called DCS (Document Control System). We intend to make it run
on MS-DOS (yuk, but DCS will do much good there ;-) and Unix. As
we (currently) don't use exotic features, porting to Minix should be
feasible. We have Minix so we might even port it for you (but don't
count on it).
When we're done, we'll post full source to the net, if the net wants
it, that is. No, I cannot say when we're ready; posting this message
feels like an obligation already... "Real Soon Now".
