I have been working on getting the MS-DOS version of GNU DIFF which was posted to comp.sources.misc working. I have the patch file which was posted as well as the original GNU DIFF sources which I obtained by FTP from prep.ai.mit.edu. The problem I am having is applying the diffs (patches) to the original sources. The documentation with the MS-DOS patches makes reference to a PATCH program which should be used to apply the fixes. I've checked on our BSD and System V machines and I cannot find a program by this name. Is there a version of the 'PATCH' program floating around the public domain for UNIX and MS-DOS? If there is could someone send either executables or source to me or perhaps if there is sufficient interest post it to comp.sys.ibmpc.binaries. I am currently faced with the prospect of applying the patches with an editor or hacking together my own patch program, neither prospect is overly intriguing. My second question involves the availability of a version of UNIX ED for MS-DOS. In order to make full use of the GNU DIFF program for updating source code I will have to find a version of ED since the -e output of GNU DIFF is compatible with ED input. I have seen a version of SED for the MS-DOS but I did not grab it when it came by. Is it possible to use SED or will I have to find a version of ED??? Any information from the net would be appreciated. Either e-mail or posting to this group would be terrific. In exchange for any helpful information I would be happy to make a (PKPAK, ARC, ZOO etc) archive of the patched source code available to anyone who could make use of it. Once again thanks for any help which may be forthcoming. As always, G.W. Wettstein
