Re: POSH meaning

In the days of steamship travel between Great Britain and India, etc,
the long journey was considerably more pleasant if one could continually
see land from his/her stateroom. POSH is an acronym for the class of
travel (available the elite who could affort it) which would provide
a stateroom on the left side of the ship during the trip going, while
providing a stateroom on the right side of the ship on the return trip.
Thus, while leaving England one would always be able to see land, as
well as on the trip back. POSH stands for "Port Outbound, Starboard
Homeward".
