[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] simtel20 arc format

usenet@cps3xx.UUCP (Usenet file owner) (03/09/89)

Should I be able to unarc files downloaded from simtel20 fine with
pkxarc? I downloaded about a meg of stuff over the weekend (before you
ask, yes, I did a 'quote "type l 8"') However, once I got it to my PC
and tried to unpack stuff, pkxarc claimed it found bad CRCs it about 90%
of the files I downloaded.

I have pkxarc and it worked fine. Something must have gone wrong with
your transfer between either Simtel20 and your machine or your machine and
your PC. To be sure I did the same thing you did, I typed 'type tenex' at
the ftp prompt and then got the file. Then I downloaded the files to a
pc that happens to be on the network. I tried pkxarc and it worked. See
if 'tenex' works.

Are you sure that the files were downloaded to your PC in BINARY mode?
Just look at the sizes before and after downloading, then you can tell.

If you use kermit for the transfer between a unix machine and your pc, be
sure to use "set file type binary" in the host (unix) machine before
beginning the file transfer.
