[comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d] Bugs in v0.90 of PKZIP...

Here's a text file that I snarfed off a local BBS. (Originally from
Compuserve, I believe.)

Subj: R: PKZIP BUGS

Dean,

These are the bugs I have have verified in the software. They will
all be corrected in the next release:

- The -o option to set the ZIP file date to the latest file with the
ZIP does not work when creating a new ZIP file, but does work
  when updating an existing file.
- I have had about half a dozen reports (out of probably tens of thousands
of users and zillions of files) files that extract with an error
using PKUNZIP on specific files that have been Shrunk. This is
due to a very rare and subtle algorithmic error in PKUNZIP. The
actual ZIP file as created by PKZIP is ok, and I have been able
to successfully extract with my development version of PKUNZIP
all files that people have sent to me.
- If an illegal filename greater than 8 characters in length is
specified to PKZIP, PKZIP might try to include the ZIP file
  within itself.

I have also received unverified reports of problems with DoubleDos,
DR-Concurrent DOS and the OS/2 penalty box. I do not yet know
the exact cause of these problems, but it appears to be due to
incomplete emulations of DOS by those programs, especially the first two.

If anyone on MagPie (or any place else) has any files that do not
extract correctly or have any other problems, I really would appreciate
if they could send me the files, or report the problem to PKWARE
voice at 414-352-2670 or via BBS at 414-352-7176.
